Your Lifestyle

Let’s change the world …

Because we can

I’m an avid reader of inspirational books and I’ve just finished another absolute gem. Here’s a brief run down on it.

It’s titled ‘Bridge Across My Sorrows’ and is written by Christina Noble with Robert Croam and is an accurate biography of Christina Noble’s life. Christina grew up in the slums of Dublin, well, that is while she had a home. At a very early age she turned to the streets as her family was split apart by death, violence, abuse and alcoholism. Christina had more challenges before she became an adult than the majority of us face in our entire lives, and it didn’t stop there.

She finally met a nice man whom she married; this however quickly followed the disastrous pattern of her life. Being trapped in an abusive marriage with three small children Christina finally began to break down, emotionally and physically, and it was in these dark moments of her life that she had an inspirational dream of hope!

“Life, misfortunes, isolation, abandonment, poverty,
are battlefields which have their heroes; obscure
heroes, sometimes greater than the illustrious heroes.”
– Victor Hugo

Christina dreamt of street children, much like herself, who were calling out to her for help, reaching for her in need. Near the end of her dream she looks up and sees a glowing neon sign with the word ‘Vietnam’ on it. It is this emotional and heart-felt dream that has led her to her destiny. Unlike many of us who would easily dismiss such a dream, Christina kept that close and although it took her over 10 years to be able to travel to Vietnam, when she did she began to change the world!

She discovered early on in her travels that her dream was much more than a dream, it was a premonition of the future and as it unfolds, changes her life, and the lives of the street children of Vietnam forever! This is a book of hope, a book to show you how challenges always have purpose and how good intentions always have a positive outcome. Her story is one of sorrow, determination and eventually triumph. You will cry, laugh and ultimately be inspired to change the world just as Christina Noble has.

Christina Noble is just one person, the same as you or me, who has followed her heart and every day makes a difference to street children, she gives them love, attention, accommodation, food and most importantly medical treatment. Christina has now created a foundation called The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation and you can check out her website at www.cncf.org.

Now you are inspired, what is it that you’d like to do? Here are a few suggestions to get you thinking:

You could knit jumpers for Africa’s children with AIDS.
You could help out in a soup kitchen locally.
You could volunteer at a local charity.
You could learn about a favourite charity and offer to speak at local Rotary Clubs.
You could visit an elderly neighbour and listen about their life.
You could mind a child for a friend to give them some time out.
You could start reading some inspirational books and share them with friends.
You could become a ‘big brother or sister’ to a child in need.
Or you could just Google local charities and simply take your pick.

“No man can tell whether he is rich or poor by turning to his ledger. It is the heart that makes a man rich. He is rich or poor according to what he is, not according to what he has.”

- Henry Ward Beecher

This week focus on others, what you can do for them and how you can support them to be all that they can be. As you begin helping the people around you things in your own life will begin to shift and improve. Whether you believe in karma or not is irrelevant that it works. Things done with positive intention and love will come back to you over and over again.
